Well, we finally made up our mind on what house we wanted to go for. Jenny found this particular house with views of Ostuni and Ceglie. The signing of the house was very official. Both the sellers and us sat in a room facing each other, us not knowing Italian and they not knowing English. We sat across from one another not knowing what to say, I mean there is only so much nodding and smiling you can do. In Italy, when you are buying a property it goes on front of a Notary to sign. This took about three hours of waiting. The contract had to be read in both Italian and English. Don't make the same mistake we did and make sure you have the following with you.
1. your original Codice Fiscale
2. Photo ID
3. Proof of address from your own country if you are moving to Italy.
4. An interpreter. We used Anna Maria Pattocchio: annamariapattocchio@gmail.com She was so helpful and funny, and knew the in's and outs of what needed to be done. She is paid in cash so make sure to have that with you.
After all of the signatures were done and 'i's' dotted we were handed the keys and a big cheer erupted from everyone in the room (there was quit a few now). We went straight to the house as we were returning home to Ireland the next day. The electricity had not been switched into our name yet so we didn't see much :) We returned the next day at 5am before our flight home, had a quick look around and off to the airport. We called our house 'Casa Eire' (House Ireland).
I will be returning to Italy without Dave this Sunday 12th Nov 23 to get some sort of Kitchen, shower, internet (STARLINK) and a bed. Then I return home to collect the dogs two weeks after that for a VERY long road trip to Ostuni, Puglia Italy via Spain
As for our house in Kildare, its gone now. Dave's Mother Kay has kindly put us up for a few weeks, with the dogs. So we are now in Gorey :)
